Jenny is Head of Business Development at Advance HE, responsible for developing new services focussed on teaching and learning, Equality, diversity and inclusion and leadership and governance. Advance HE has significant experience in governance including good governor development, governance effectiveness reviews and producing good practice guides. Previous to her current role Jenny led the board diversification project, bringing together related, practical initiatives to support HE to diversify boards. Jenny was formerly a Senior Consultant at the executive search firm Perrett Laver, leading senior leadership appointments in global HE. She holds an MSc Occupational Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London.

Drawing on insights from the board diversification project, and from Advance HE’s experience supporting good governance, this session will consider:

  • The available data on the current diversity of governing boards in HE
  • The value of diversity on the board: the relationship between diversity and good governance
  • Strategies to support institutions to identify and secure a diverse pool of candidates for governor vacancies
  • How inclusive cultures can support good governance and further increase the diversity of the board
  • The actions individuals can take to move the dial on boardroom diversity
